Here is a short video highlighting the process of adding braces colors:

Background of Braces Colors

Originally, braces are made of simple metal wire and so there would be a flash of silver every time someone wearing braces would smile. Then after a while the first braces color started to appear and these were generally blue, red and green. The red and blue became the most famous because green teeth just seemed a little repulsive, especially to girls. Soon the braces color options widened to the famous pink, purple, yellows and orange. Withing years, these colors evolved even further and people could choose not only from one color but various shades of that braces color as well. So kids especially, now had something fun to look forward to when going to for a visit to the dentist.

The parts of the braces that the colors were attached to was the small square sections (ligatures) that actually sit on each individual tooth and apply the pressure. In other words, the connective metal wire remains the silver metal color. Braces are essentially put on by gluing the device onto the teeth. The entire structure is then supported by the very last few teeth in the back of the mouth where the metal wire wraps around. Once the glue that is used to attach the braces dries, the braces color is then glued over the metal parts. In other words, the colored parts are not the actual part of the brace but rather a thin addition that makes the entire device more appealing. An option that a lot of people do not realize right away that they have is to interchange the braces colors from one ligature to the next. Many people choose to have red and blue interchanging braces colors or pinks and purple. So if you can not choose from two colors, you can have both!

Many brace wearers have heard of power chains. These are essentially the same thing as braces but they differ in that they do not have the ligatures (the small square parts that apply pressure to the teeth) but rather they are one continuous chain that applies unified pressure over the entire row of teeth. Power chains, like braces, can have color added on to them in much the same way as braces. So for those who have been told by their orthodontist that they need power chains instead of braces, no worries the same color swatches are available for you as for brace wearers.

Braces are adjusted and reapplied to teeth again and again sometimes for several years. How often the braces to adjusted varies from individual to individual but the point is that at every adjustment, the colors of the braces can also be changed. For those brace wearers who have a hard time picking braces color the first time, need not worry because by the time the brace wearing is over you may have gone through all of the braces color options that the dentist office has!

Choosing the Right Braces Colors:

People start off by choosing their favorite colors first and then experimenting with various other colors as times goes on. Another great thing is that sometimes by the time the brace wearer returns to the dentist for an adjustment, there may be whole new set of braces color options for them to choose from. Some people make the picking of the colors a special occasion or time the colors so they go with a certain time of the year or a certain special outfit they know they will be wearing. For example, many people choose colors for their braces that they actually wear a lot. Some kids know they have a school dance or wedding to go to so they pick out a color for their braces that will match the dress or the shoes or the jewelry. For the holiday seasons, people pick special braces colors as well. Some go for a red or green for Christmas time while others do an orange for Halloween and red and blue for July 4th. The possibilities are endless!

Cost of  Braces Color

The braces color does not have to be an expensive addition to the cost of the simple braces. Many insurance companies will cover the cost of the colored braces as much as they cover the cost of the non colored braces. However, generally speaking, there is an additional fee to adding color to the braces, simply because of the extra time and material that goes into the process. The cost or braces alone can be in the range of several thousand and the addition of color can be another extra few hundred. However, many consider it a worth it cost because it makes wearing braces for years at a time, a more manageable task.

For many people, the braces color is the best invention in the industry of dentistry because not only does it get the job done, but it also makes the entire process of correcting one’s jaw and teeth a more enjoyable process. Braces colors are not only perfect for kids, but for teens and adults as well.
